Frequently Asked Questions
What is Event Services?
Event Services was developed to provide a simple, responsive method for the Rice University Community to resource its catering needs. Below are topics that we hope will address many of the questions community members have asked about the list of caterers. We recognize there are times when a particular function on the website may cause some issues or you may just have a question about how to make something work. We have categorized main topics about Event Services. If you still have questions or are unsure about something, use the email link at the bottom of the page to ask your question and the system administrator will get back to you as soon as possible.
How do I contact the approved caterers for Rice University?
You can access the list of approved caterers here. The method of contact is highlighted for each caterer (on-line, telephone or email). It is not necessary to include Event Services in the purchase of catering. Services should be negotiated and purchased directly from the caterer. However, please do provide feedback to Event Services afterwards on the caterer’s performance, if needed.
How do I make a good selection of an approved caterer for my event?
Most of the caterers on the Approved Caterer List have been doing business with Rice University for several years, and their catering vehicles are a familiar sight on campus. Additional caterers were added based on their proximity to the campus and/or the service category/cuisine they could provide. Not all caterers who were invited to apply to the list accepted. Some caterers who had been doing business with the campus chose not to go through the application process when they were first contacted. They may still apply.
How do I add a caterer that I want in the program?
If you have a caterer you have worked with before and think would be an asset to the community you may nominate them by sending them the application. It is the caterer who must initiate the application process, not Event Services nor a Rice University employee. The information needed on the application is very specific to each caterer. Click here to go to the Nomination page and get the application along with more information.
Can I do business with a caterer or supplier of these services that is not in the program?
Yes. However, it is in everyone’s best interests to add all the vendors who will be on campus to the program as it reduces the risk to the University, allows other employees access to the caterer, and also gives a much wider exposure to that caterer. Remember, every caterer in the program can be seen by the entire University and potential customers can see much more information that is specific to the Rice experience versus just relying on information that may not be as specific as would otherwise be available on the Internet.
How do I provide feedback on a particular caterer?
If you have any feedback on a particular vendor, it may be submitted by email to email@example.com. A reply email will be sent back to you with any questions or for clarification.
